Euthanasia Is A Very Controversial Topic That Has Been
Euthanasia is a very controversial topic that has been around for many years. It has a wide range of what is considered okay. There are a lot of people against euthanasia. Some of the people think that a few types are permissible, while others are not. There is a final group that supports it and that all forms of euthanasia are okay. Euthanasia is defined as a ââ¬Å"painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma.â⬠(dictionary.com) In other words it is a good death for a suffering patient, who cannot be cured. There are three types of euthanasia which are active, passive, and assisted suicide. Active euthanasia is when the patient receives a painless injection or pill that willâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Some acts of euthanasia should be allowed. Passive euthanasia and physician assisted suicide are more likely to agree with than active euthanasia because both of these do not actively kill the patient. Passive euthana sia is allowing the patient to die, and assisted suicide is letting the patient do it themselves. I think that passive euthanasia is worse than active because the patient suffers more than they would if they had been injected with a painless injection. Passive euthanasia includes: the taking away of food, water and necessary things to keep a person alive. Doctors are usually more okay with this because it does not go against their code of ethics. Passive euthanasia is currently not legal in the United States. Assisted suicide is legal in Oregon and some European countries. People are more okay with the patient doing physician assisted suicide because the patient is not pressured into it and have an equal option to life of death. Since people are more okay with these forms of euthanasia, I think they should reconsider their ideas on active euthanasia. Passive euthanasia seems more inhumane than active because of all that goes into it. Letââ¬â¢s say your grandpa is in the hospital with stage four small cell lung cancer (very hard to cure) and is told that he has a maximum of six months to live, and after finding out this information your grandpa asks to be euthanized.Show MoreRelatedEuthanasia And Physician Assisted Suicide865 Words à |à 4 PagesDeath is a touchy enough subject for people; add in the idea of assisted suicides and thereââ¬â¢s an uproar in society. Applying Scientific Standards For Aids - 1433 Words
Applying Scientific Standards to AIDs In an interconnected world, the possibility for spreading diseases is incredibly high compared to centuries past. Notorious epidemics like the Black Plague or smallpox were relatively contained to a single continent, until the Europeans brought smallpox to the Americas. The HIV virus was an example of a rapidly spread virus that quickly made its way across the world, including North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Australia (http://www.avert.org/professionals/history-hiv-aids/overview). In And the Band Played On, the doctors of The Center for Disease Control do their best to follow scientific standards while trying to deal with the disease, even with the politics of Reagan breathing down their neck. The issues they encounter are like the ideas proposed by Merton, Longino, and Douglas, particularly with the way they conduct the experiment and deal with the findings. The glaring problem with the discoverer of AIDs is that he breaks Mert onââ¬â¢s norm of communistic scientific knowledge. Itââ¬â¢s typically assumed that the American character portrays an American stereotype of sorts. In this movie, Dr. Robert Gallo represents the ambitious scientist that wants the credit, regardless of how it affects the development of an AIDs medicine. Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House - 936 Words
In Henrik Ibsenââ¬â¢s play ââ¬Å"A Dollââ¬â¢s Houseâ⬠the relationship between husband and wife, male and female, is portrayed in many ways. Femaleââ¬â¢s were seen as inferior and had very little expected out of them other then being a wife and mother, which is accurate for the time period Ibsen wrote the play in. This is evident in the relationship between the two main characters, Torvald and Nora Helmer. Torvald expects Nora to be a wife and mother first and foremost above being a human being. Though these two responsibilities are a big deal, especially in the time period ââ¬Å"A Dollââ¬â¢s Houseâ⬠is written in, they have taken precedent over Noraââ¬â¢s responsibility to herself, to find who she truly is. Nora does a lot of pretending, a lot of hiding, and ultimately is a doll in the eyes of Torvald. Through out the three acts Nora makes herself weak and allows herself to have no voice. She has played around to please Torvald, pretending to be happy and have her own opinions, but by the end of the play she realizes that it has all been an act and decides its time to take off the costume and stop pretending. ââ¬Å"Nora (from within): Taking off my costumeâ⬠(Ibsen 911), this line is seen in act 3 after Torvald has forgiven Nora for what she has done. This line offers a lot to that specific moment, but the line also offers a great deal to the play as a whole.
